ABOUT ME

The Mortgage Maan

Hi, my name is Balraj Maan and I became a mortgage broker to help clients navigate the financial aspect of buying a home.  I went through the process myself not too long ago.  Had it not been for an amazing mortgage broker I would not be a home owner right now.  I was new to Canada and working as a freelance consultant for the hospitality and tourism industry in Hawaii.  Trying to qualify for a mortgage proved to be quite challenging since I had little credit history and was considered self-employed.  Going the more traditional route of banking institutions left me frustrated and feeling defeated.  In some cases, I felt like I was being rushed out the door and no one wanted to talk to me.  I finally chanced upon a mortgage broker and had a great conversation with the team there.  They gave me some great advice and my wife and I were finally able to buy our first home.

As it turns out, I was in the midst of considering a career change and the idea of becoming a mortgage broker started to pop up.  The experience I had with our broker inspired me to want to do the same for anyone trying to get into home ownership.  I had some experience in finance and real estate which helped me navigate the certification process through the Real Estate Division at UBC Sauder School of Business.

As The Mortgage Maan, my goal is guide you each step of the way and make the home buying process as stress free as possible.  I want my clients to feel genuinely valued, understood and educated on the decisions that they are making.  I work with an outstanding team of brokers and administrators to ensure you have a broad range of expertise and experience to draw from.

I grew up in Singapore and moved to Honolulu, Hawaii to attend university in 2007.  I earned my BSBA in Travel Industry Management from Hawaii Pacific University in 2010 and have since worked as a hospitality, tourism and real estate consultant.  While there, I met my best friend and the love of my life and we made the decision to move back to Canada to be closer to her family towards the end of 2014.  We settled in Nanaimo the next year and have since been working towards establishing ourselves in the Harbour City.

Most Singaporeans are  major foodies and I spend a large portion of my free time trying to perfect recipes from home.  If you're ever curious, let me know and I'd be happy to whip up something to share.  I'm also a massive sports fan and love taking in whatever soccer, rugby, or mixed martial arts event the weekend might bring.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me.  I'd love to meet you so feel free to get in touch by email or phone.
